mini review: V for Vendetta as Cultural Pastiche

A fun, non-dissertation related, read today. Keller's approach to writing about the intertextual conversations associated with the film-comic were quite interesting.

  • Elizabeth I, the Spanish catholics, and the oppression that resulted in The Gunpowder Plot by Guy Fawkes et al.
  • The dystopian novels/films of 1982, Brave New World, Brazil, etc.
  • The alternative (and I'd argue rich) readings of V's home including his paintings and rescued artifacts. The importance of Count of Montecristo.
  • A credible argument on where terrorism can be fledglingly democratic.
  • The multiple meanings of V.
I'll recommend it for interested students in future film & lit. classes
